48hr's later and mucles are still sore.?

If your muscles are still sore after 48hrs. is it ok to work that muscle as a secondary exercise?

I read an article recently that showed results from a study saying that it is okay to work sore muscles, it doesn't do any undesirable damage.
I wil look it up, if you want the specifics.
