Hi,

Is it possible to do the 12 week mass program with free-weights only, no machines ?

I'm just finishing my 8 week buildup program, and I've been playing around looking at various programmes I may try next (after a nice lazy week with no weights that is).

The 12 week mass is the only one I found so far that gives me the kinda reps I'd like to try... short sets using more weight and less reps. The program I just finished had me finishing mostly everything with 10-12 reps on the fourth set, but I'm after mass rather than endurance.

Should I try the 12 week mass special, or will this have to wait until I can get access to a multigym ?

Thanks,

Rob.

Hey Rob,

the 12 week mass program is great.. if followed to the 't'. You will need access to some machines further in the program.. but 90% of it deals with free-weights. Perhaps I can help you with substitutes for some of those..

Good Luck

Thx for the reply Arnold,

I just jumped forward a couple of steps this morning, and picked up a secondhand multigym at a bargain price from a guy advertising a few miles away from me. Maybe not the best bulti in the world, but it should see me ok for a year or more anyway :)

So, that kinda settles it then.. One weeks rest forward by 12 week mass program it is then.

Wish me luck ;)

Rob.

So substituitions are not a good idea on this program than Arnold? How detrimental are they?

I am into the 8th week of my mass building program and its great. You will see awesome results from it Rob. Free weights are involved for many of the exercises too. After becoming involved with this program I now understand the importance of compund movements to build mass.
Good Luck!
I have also done some substitutions in the past like seated machine row instead of bent over row..was this wrong?

Substitutions should be fine. I actually prefer working mainly with free weights.

Good luck!
