With regards to my son, he is not old enough to go to the gym. They only take 14 and over. I know weight training is not to good or important at his age, but I realised he is over his acceptable weight. Does anyone have any ideas for me, so that I can get his weight down? Cardio? He's 103 lbs. 5'7" Need some real answers here folks.

LOL You should just try to increase his activity level (like cardio) and set a good example as far as eating goes.

try changing his eating habits also...instead of having chips for a snack, try pretzels or yogurt...this will influence his mood also into making a healthier decision in exercising;)

Definately don't try getting him to "diet" or make him think he's "fat". That's only going to cause him to have a poor self image as he gets older. Just make sure he has healthy foods for snacks available, and meals. Cardio is a must. Kids these days will spend hours in front of the tv or computer. If you can afford it, you might sign him up for some TaeKwonDoe lessons or something like that. Also, he can weight train, as long as the weights are very low, and the reps are very high. If you do any kind of cardio work out, you could do that with him as well. My son loves doing tae bo. And then, try not to worry about it. If he's eating healthy, and getting plenty of exercise, he'll be fine.

its important what he eats at the dining table with his family too. healthy food with a salad to go with it. look at where his interests are-does he like soccer or football? then he should join a club.i've been to soccer training before-and damn is it tiring! i wouldn't suggest jogging or anything like that-unless he enjoys it. For many people, especially kids his age, itsjust plain boring-and then they lose motivation quickly.
