hey, i'm new to this and I have a question about the breathing. Do you have to breath in while using strenght then breathe out while letting go or the opposite?

thx.

Actually that depends on what exercise you're doing.....

As a golden rule breath out when you're doing the hardest part.

Try to listen to your body and do what is the most natural.

Most important thing is to make sure you DO breath.

Sometimes on hard reps i find myself holding my breath and have to concentrate on breaking.

As long as you remember to breath during your reps i find the in's and out's come naturally.

Good point Jingo, and especially when you do ab exercises..... Otherwise you'll just finish with a big bloated tummy!! (o;

Some people always exhale during the contraction. Some people always exhale during contractions *except* for back work, then they do the opposite. I think it depends on what kind of training you're doing. When you do traditional weight lifting usually breathe out during the same place each time, and if it is the contraction (upward phase on squats, upward on overhead presses, up on pushups) and breathe in during the eccentric phase. During ab work you have to balance breathing with internal pressure so it takes more concentration. I use videos so they really help me get it.

I tend to breath out when I'm really lifting or pushing something heavy. Seems alot easier. Just remember to breath though.
I do notice myself holding my breath sometimes when doing my last couple of reps and this really gets counter productive. Nothing worse than being out of breath after a set.

Just remember to keep a controlled breathing patern that's comfortable and all should be fine :)

I think when you contract you should exhale...and the other motion of the rep you should inhale. It gives oxeygen to your brain and blood and everything so your heart can keep on pumping. I think this has a great affect of homostasis or w/e lol

Try to breath in as you relax the muscle and breath out tence the muscle as the muscle tences it pushes the blood ans oxygen out, when the strain is removed from the muscle it takes in the blood and oxygen. Breath in the nose out the mouth and breath out slower than you breath in. Try to breath to the abdomin not the chest. your abdomin should rise not your chest. But most impotantly breath try your best not to hold your breth. This is most difficult in the last set last couple of reps when you are really digging for the strenght. Breathing takes a while to get it right. best of luck to you.

o and make sure to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. I think it has to do with keeping your heart and a healthy rate or something i dunno...it's good but i forget why
