I had the first due of my weight routine yesterday. It didn't feel right at all! I did shoulders yesterday. The overhead press and lat raises. I did feel some slight burning in my shoulders but felt a lot of sensation on the inside of my elbow when doing the presses. Also felt it in my back. I was not expecting to feel that and wondered if I was maybe going to heavy or to light? I keep my shoulder slightly bent through. On the lat raises, I just didn't "feel" it so to speak. I feel like if I'm not feeling a certain degree of burn that I'm not working hard enough. Also, I have been lifting consistently for over a month. I usually get sore but not near as sore as those first few weeks which also makes me wonder am I pushing hard enough. Any thoughts?
I am suppose to do the machine standing calf raise which we don't have at my gym. Would a suitable alternate by to stand on some step benches and do them what way w/some dumbbells?

Ok I hope I can help you out. For the over head press how were your arms placed. By this I mean that when you grab the bar and you are sitting down, you arms should make the letter "L" I think that maybe you have your hands placed to far im, or if you are doing behind the head presses try doing them to the front. As for the lat raises, if you feel a burn you are doing them right, if you want a "deeper" burn add more weight/ and or reps. Let me know if this helps out at all. Yes you can use a step and some dumb bells in replace of machine calf raises.

Thanks 7707mutt!
For the OH press, I tried to envision myself making a triangle with my arms. I have done them in the past and have felt them a little more. I think maybe I went too light or my form was sacrificied because I did 4 sets and I rarely do over 2. I will try to go heavier for the lat raise because I would like to have more of a burn.

Do you place your hands closer to each other? If so move them out so each arm makes like the letter L, try that from what you have said you felt it more near the elbows, that seems to me that they are to close.
