I just did that this early Saturday morning...... Jumping (or plymetric exercises). I've made a tall step (45 cm high, I guess that's around 18 inches) and I jump on it with my feet together. I also did lots of skipping and other funny crazy things. This gives great explosive strength to your legs. Oh Wednesday morning I did jumping squats..... lol it darn hurts but it's also a genius exercise. Be careful with your kness thou and it's NOT the moment to brake your record in how heavy you can take....... Stay light. -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |

Great topic, I think I will try this as well. I don't have a big vertical leap.-------------- Lisa |

yeah plyos are good but just remember to take it easy on your knees. If the ligaments and tendons of your knees are not developed adequately, then plyos can be damaging. You should be able to squat at least 1.5 times your bodyweight before you do vert training.olympic lifting will also assist greatly in your explosive ability, but it might be hard to find someone to adequately teach you the lifts |

I happened to buy an air alert program two years ago. In about 3 months my vertical went from 17 inches to 27 inches. I have to say it worked pretty well. |

It is a series of different jumps. Example: jump for 150 jumps as high as you can, then do 200 calf raises, then jump on a chair that is 20 inches high. then do 1,200 jumps on your toes jumping about 1 inch high. Something like that but I made up my own routine that is shorter and I think works better. Gave me an extra 2 inches in about 6 weeks. |

lewdog_55, May I ask what you changed on yours. I started doing Air Alert 2 for a couple weeks but had to stop because of a time restraint but would like to start it back up. I was just wondering how you modified it to make it shorter. I want to start it up again and try and gain some inches. I have the program, but would like to make it a little shorter. Don't have enough time to do that, weight lift, and cardio at the same time. But as I was thinking, wouldn't this work for cardio?? ============ Quoting from lewdog_55: It is a series of different jumps. Personally i do use this 4 times a week as cardio. I ran into the same problem lift, cardio, abs, and vertical leap all in one week is a little much. So I use the vertical leap as cardio as i made it a circuit with very little rest. so here is what i made up and think you should give it a try. It really works!!! 1.Jump Almost as high as you can for about 2 minutes 2. Put on 5 LB ankle wieghts on each leg around your ankles. Leave on for the rest of the excercise. 3.Jump about 6-12 inches for about 2 minutes 4.Jump side to side for about 2 minutes 5. Jump on your toes about 1 inch of the floor about 2 minutes. 6. jump side to side again for 2 minutes 7. Run in place for 3 minutes I pick 6 different songs, one for each excercise, based on the type of beat and this is also how i measure how long I jump. You can also change the amount of time you jump. but believe me two minutes with weights is a pretty good workout!! |

One more question lewdog, how long a break is in between each of these, just a short little 15 second break or a little longer? Thanks, I will give this a try....and it will help me with cardio since I HATE doing cardio. Don't know why, just don't like cardio I guess. ============ Quoting from lewdog_55: Personally i do use this 4 times a week as cardio. well I am at a point where the only break is about the 15 seconds you said, that is when I change CD's for a new song. Please tell me how is goes when you start, since I did make this up myself I would like to know if it works for someone else. You might be pretty sore after the first day!!!LOL to keep track of your progress, find a wall and draw a line where the top of your fingers are. Then take a piece of tape on one of your fingers and take a step and jump. measure how far from the line to the tape. record heights ever week. |
