Hi all!
Am new to this and getting ready to embark on a campaign of losing weight and gaining muscle. I have also packed up smoking a week ago to make a real go of this. Its been a real mental struggle getting over not having a cancer stick. I'd love some motivational pointers as to why smoking hinders muscle gain etc etc. Thanx Dan

I'll tell you why...smoking (along with all its carcinogenic properties) disrupts your body's nitrogen balance. Retaining nitrogen is required for the regeneration of muscle tissues (which we destroy during intense weight training). That's the scientific reason.
If that's not enough, cigarettes have a fair amount of cyanide which is used to kill rats and mice.

Also the butts fill your body with toxins and now your body has to rid these toxins ASAP.

Plus, your breath reeks so no one will spot you. Therefore you must remain hapless and weak, a prisoner of your own vice.
In all seriousness though, do you really need substantiation for making this decision? You ARE doing the right thing, end of story. I wish my parents were as motivated as you. The hacking, coughing, and wheezing I hear and have heard my entire life is horrible.
Good luck, keep it up.

man all you need to do is go to http://www.thetruth.com/ That and go try to run up a flight of stairs. That was a big thing for me. Anytime I wanted a cigarette, go run. It doesn't even have to be intense. If your work has stairs, just jog up them twice. When you catch breath in 20 minutes you'll realize how bad cigs are.

I am an avid supporter of thetruth.com. I strongly agree with the fact that they are not anti-cigarettes, but anti lies in the advertising. And yes, I've seen pictures of a smokers lung removed post mortem. Not pretty. You really want a reason to quit smoking? Look at the % of people that have to have their lower jaw removed do to mouth cancer. This is more common in tobacco chewers, but it happens frequently with smokers too. There's also that whole trachiotomy..
