Hi, I am in the 7th week of the mass program. I am very curious why it has me doing so many reps. A typical exercise goes something like this 20, 16, 14, 12. By doing that many reps, I have to cut way down on the weights. I always thought to gain mass, one had to lift fewer reps, & more weight. This program has me doing just the opposite. Can someone explain, please?

The number of reps have changed during the program (you haven't noticed?!!)
If you always do the same number, you'll stop getting results.

Last thing, muscle mass building has nothing to do with lifting very heavy weights. This is the job for the powerlifters and not the bodybuilders.......

Welcome to ft, Jim! I get those number of reps. too especially with lateral raises and/or front raises. However, I don't get them every week. The number of reps. usually rotate.

But as Nina pointed out, you don't necessarily have to lift fewer reps. to gain mass. The key is stimulating/shocking your muscles.
