Hello, Question. I am about to start my cut up phase and I am planning on working up to doing 45 minutes of cardio in the mourning and hittng the weights later in the day. I have 10 weeks to lose hopefully about 25 to 35 pounds of fat. Now my question is, is 5 times a week of cardio too much? Will I lose mass by doing that much cardio? What should my heart rate be per minute? Should I mix it up with high and low impact cardio? What should I be eating And when it's comes to weight training how often should I switch up to high reps? If this info is nessecary Im 24 5'8" I weigh 230 pounds and my bf is about 20 to 25%. Wow I should of said questions!!

Seriously. From everything I've seen lots of cardio won't affect your mass if you make sure you're eating right (protein etc) , I don't think five times a week is too much, No clue on the heart rate, and I think that's about all I can answer. Somebody more experienced??

Cardio, 45 minutes, 5x a week might be a lot. But then again it depends on what type of cardio exercises you'll be doing. As for you being in the cutting-phase, expect to lose some muscle mass, assuming you are on a low calorie diet. And your diet....hmm.. there's tons of posts here in FT about what to eat during a cutting-phase..Check out the Programs or do a search here on ths board.. As for weights, I'd keep the reps high....and probably lighter as well. Oh yeah, and don't forget to supplement with vitamins especically during this phase!

5x cardio per week is not necessary...3x should be sufficient. Use your search button for info. on HIIT cardio. This is fairly intense and should help you during this phase.
Keep your protein intake high (1-1.5g per pound of bodyweight) so that you won't lose much mass. Sire hit the nail on the head when he recommended a good multivitamin.
Good luck...

Maybe I can help on the heart rate question. If you take 220 - your age (220-24 = 196) it will give your max heart rate. Multiply that number x .75 (196 X .75 = 147) and also by .85 (196 X .85 = 167). This will give your 75% - 85% range where you should be working (between 147 and 167 bpm). If you are doing H.I.I.T. training, you definitely want to get it up to that 85% number. That is, of course, assuming that you are healthy and do not have any heart problems that would prohibit you from working out for extended periods at an elevated heart rate.
There is another formula that is a little more accurate, but that involves keeping your resting heart rate before getting out of bed for at least 3 days. This is close enough for horseshoes. Hope it helps. Happy training!
