I want to know if a whole wheat pasta with homemade fully loaded sauce ( sausage , lean hamburger , onions , peppers , carrots and celery ) is a good pre workout meal , and if it is how much is to much? Mmmmmm I just made myself hungry again.

What's your goal...lose weight or gain mass? Anyway, it's sounds fine, but does it make you feel bloated during your workout? I usually "feel full" from any pasta meal...and won't usually workout afterwards. I would give it at least 2 hours before working out.

Too heavy starchy carbs will make you tired (because of the famous insulin spike) You are better with a lighter pre work out meal like some chicken and rice......

I think pre and post workout meals are a good oppertunity to eat some simple carbs (in particular post workout). I often crave a bit of sugar during the day but I can always wait until gym time!

No and yes jonpullen. No because it's not a very good idea to eat lots of simple carbs just BEFORE the work out. Oh yes it'll boost you a little while but then it'll just make you tired and you will not be able to work as hard as normal.
And yes, as you said yourself, simple carbs (with proteins) is okey AFTER work out since you need the insulin spike to fill out the lost glycogene in your muscles.
Sooooooo, if you keep dreaming about those marshmellows then eat them just after 8 sets of heavy squats!! (o:
