We'll I am pleased to report that _finally_, I have lost weight! Today's scale showed a 3 pound loss from last week. Hopefully it will keep going down! I know everyone says not to pay much attention to the scale, as muscle weighs more than fat and what have you, but it is really encouraging to actually see progress.

3 down, 45 to go :)

A what does the mirror say?!!!!! Can you see the difference already? A what about the sleep, do you sleep better after having begun doing sport? And no more heavy legs (better blood circulation)? More energy and smiling a lot more?!!!!
Soooo many good things about sport. I cannot understand how so many people can live without it!!!

I know exactly what you’re talking about Philia2. Alorle, I would limit how often you get on the scales. try weighing yourself no more then 2x times per month. I have a friend that would constantly weigh himself until finally he got discouraged and quit exercise all together. Be careful you don't blindly head down that path. I'm glad to hear that you lost 3 lbs. and I'm sure you will continue to lose fat throughout your exercise career. By the way where do you currently stand? And where do you want to be? And how soon do you want to get there?

I weigh 185 (just under) right now, I want to weigh 140, and I hope to be there within 6 months.
I weigh in once a week, and take into account things like monthlys and added stress, and diet over the week prior.

Philia, exercise does help me with my stress, but it does also cause stress, trying to work out with my little girl. The gym has a 2 hour window for child care every day, or my husband can watch her if he's not too tired in the morning when he gets home from work. That is the best solution, as I can drop my son off at school, and go straight to the gym.

Hmm, I posted without finishing :)

Now, you say you have a hard time getting French women to go to your gym; do you have a good childcare there, and is it free? That's a big problem here in the US. Women feel guilty for leaving their children, sometimes it is really expensive, and can cost as much as the gym membership, and childcare hours aren't always convenient.

Good for you! You have a goal that will take some focus but I think you can do it! Your goal looks like about 2 pds a week. Remember not to get caught up in the numbers. If you diet right and work out you will gain some lean mass. Sometimes we lose weight and the scale does not show it. One year ago I weighed 128 about 17% bodyfat. (7 months ago I competed at 117 8% bf.) Now I weight about 130 12% body fat. If I went only by the scales I would be depressed thinking I made no progress in the last year. So watch the scale like you do weekly but watch the mirror more but clothes telll the true story. And maybe think about getting a bodyfat caliper at some point when your comfortable with it. A friend of mine lost 45 pds in the last 7 months (was over 200)just changing her diet and doing Taebo! She stopped eating late at night too. She took 3 weeks off from working out and only gained 1 pd during that time. We are so proud of her accomplishment. You can do it too with people supporting you.

Alorle the French women don't really have this problem about taking care of their kids. You can put your 2 years old in pre-school (and the mothers don't really want to do any sort of sport before anyway).

My sister spent 4 weeks in the south of France. She said that the women in France tend to be thinner than women in the US. Despite the fact they don't work out! My sis lost 5 pds while in France because the restaurants serve smaller portions than in the US. I heard yesterday that 2 out of 3 Americans are severly overweight or obese!

Ohhh yes, everywhere in the world they serve smaller portions in the restaurants than in the US..... And everything is a lot sweeter (and often more fat too) in taste too. A coke doesn't taste the same here as where you guys live. BUT you have the choice we haven't.
I mean you got sooooo many different foods so actually it's just up to you to eat well. Then you can eat healthier than us in Europe. To give you an example, it's very difficult for us to get fat free yogurt icecream or light SevenUp, or Tofu or cottage cheese..... Instead we got more than 300 different kind of cheese, drink red wine, use olive oil and eat our baguettes to almost everything......
The French women are not fat but they are definitely not fit too. The beauty industry here is huuuuuuge, and it's in fact my biggest concurrent since the French rather want to spend lots of money to go to the beauty clinic for a treatment against cellulite or to get their weekly "work out" with electronic dots all over.....
If you ask them why they don't do sport, they'll say that they don't have enough time and that sport (especially weight training) will make you huuuge....
So yes they are not fat but not firm either (now what is the best?!! lol)....

If you ever want some tofu we have this stuff in the box NORI Tofu I think. Keeps forever on the shelf. Give me a shout and I'll send you some for X-mas! ( you'll have it by 2002!)
I am not sure but I bet skinny fat unfit is probably better for the heart than very overweight and unfit. Many people in this country even have bad knees and backs from being too heavy. I know several people who have had knee replacements from years of extra stress on the knees. This could be easily prevented with some weight loss.

6 months seems to be a realistic goal and with a little perseverance you should be able to meet your expectation. Good Luck!
