This is kinda a 2 part question guys so do bare with me. THe first question is in regards to cardio exercise. I have been having a problem getting rid of my waist. My love handles aren't getting smaller. But the reason being is because I am not putting cardio in my routines. At the same time, I am trying to gain weight and muscle. So I heard its not good to do much cardio when I want to gain weight. So what should I do. I want to get bigger but not fatter!

No.2 is much easier to understand. Just want to know what is the difference from using cable machines and free weights? Will I gain less mass if I use cable machines instead of free weights? Or are they the same? I hesistate using cable machines only because I heard its not as good to use if you are trying to gain weight!

Thanks guys!

First of all how is your diet ?
You can gain muscle with both cable and free weights. Who told you that? Hopefully not a Certified Trainer!
There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Cable, machine and free weights all come together when building muscles. No one is actually better than the other, they all stimulate the muscles differently.

You should incorporate 3 sessions about 20-30 minutes. Mix it up between bike, treadmill, efx. rowing machine. Cardiovascular exercise is needed to keep a healthy heart regardless of your gain/lose goals.

Guys,
I want to know tho, does doing cardio affect the fact that I want to gain weight. Someone told me that its better to gain the weight and then cut down the fat.

And my diet is alright right now decent...I am having a lot f protein per meal. I just don't want to lose muscle because doing anabolic exercise then metabolic...dont want to lose anything i gain!
hope u guys can help

There are different schools of thought on this issue. Refer to my previous post for my recommendation.
Lets look at this..First you say diet is good. OK on that.
Second you complain about fat around your waist. Well if the diet is good then you should consider a small amount of cardio to try and reduce your body fat. If what you are doing isn't getting results (ie..no cardio now) then you need to make a change.
Third incorporating cardio exercise in a limited amount should not cause you to lose muscle. I mean if you aren't doing much now there is no way you are going to jump on the treadmill and run for an hour or more. Studies show that long cardio sessions of over an hour may burn muscle. Shorter sessions within your target heart rate should not hurt you. You may even find you get some results with this slight change. Start off at 15 mins 3 sesions a week then go to 20 min the next week. If all is well add a 30 minute session the third week. If you think your losing muscle, well then we can evaluate this again in a few weeks.
If you are really concerned and money isn't a factor you could try taking L-Carnitine (expensive) and GH Factor.(check out bodybuildingworld.com )Supplements are a variable that work for some not for others. I use L-Carnitine off and on and I like it, other say it makes no difference and is a waste of money.
Keep me posted. Hope this helps.
My husband runs a couple days a week, he's muscular. Check it out at my profile. Leslie
