i actually went into a laser hair removal clinic, because i wanted to get the hair on my neck removed permanently. the angle and thickness that my hair grows in at makes it look like i'm never clean shaven on my neck, and if i shave my neck against the grain, i might as well be peeling all my skin off.

anyhow, it ended up being expensive as hell, so i walked out of there. they wanted around $1000 just for the neck area. this included like 4 or 5 treatments, because your hair grows in cycles and you have to keep going back every couple months to get all the hair growth removed. i also heard it's quite painfull... more painfull than getting a tattoo.

i shave my chest and arms, and any sparse patches of hair that i find growing on my back or shoulders too. my legs i don't shave, but i trim them with the clippers or they get crazy hairy and i think it looks gross. ideally, i'd like to laser my entire torso, but i will never have enough money to do that.

waxing, nair, nads, etc don't work for guys when you have thick, coarse hair. your only option is shaving or laser/electrolosis

I had to join up just to enter in the chat...the best thing I have used after shaving to cut back on the bumps and pimples is to apply zinc oxide cream, aka diaper rash cream (I use Aveeno Baby). Spread it thinly. It really helps. lol

What is the purpose of a guy shaving his chest and arms? Do a lot of guys really remove their body hair? My bf shaves his stomach, but only to keep an eye out for melanoma since he had a malignant mole removed years ago, not for aesthetic reasons.

Vanity.

Just an aside...I had a conversation with a certain female patient and the topic of hair removal came up. She said that she had her entire body lasered (head excluded). Because of the closed environment I live and work in (military), I bump into her periodically. Not the mental picture I want to have in the store or gym (or is it?).

Anyway, I do not remember the body part I treated, but I know it didn't have anything to do with hair.

I have a tendency to suspect a man is gay if he goes to all that trouble. But, I'm old and out of touch, apparently.

I realize that...to be honest, the only guy I've ever seen (that I'm aware of) that shaved or waxed or lasered EVERYTHING was a male stripper. I did not get the feeling that he was gay, but for me there was a definite eeew factor both because he had stripped himself clean and that he was my son's age and me thinking could be one of my son's friends! It was my first (and last, I think) male stripper experience and...I didn't know they took EVERYTHING off.

Oh boy - not all of them take everything off, wow, i need to know where you went girl!! J/k
Anyways yeah that would make it uncomfortable to begin with, I like a well defined chest with no hair, that's all I'm saying..

oops...where did this thread go? I think it is a little weird when males or females take it all off, perhaps less than folk who tattoo their entire bodies or pierce...uh...things other than ears (some of those really make me uncomfortable). But that is their choice.

Anyway, perhaps I am having a bit of middle age crisis here. I'd rather get rid of some offending gray hairs than dying it. Besides us men tend to grow hair in places that we would rather not, backs, ears, etc.

If a little chest hair removal makes me feel sexy, my wife feels it too. After almost 25 years of marriage, it's almost like she's having an affair with a married man. Now I am excited, gotta go!

Ear hair? I like to refer them as feelers to help clear tight spaces, as well as keep my ears warm in the winter.

k-ok, it is one thing to do it for yourself...if you do it you should be doing it yourself. It just seems like men are starting to feel pressured to do this because all of a sudden it is in vogue. Then women come to expect it and are grossed out by a man that has...gasp...hair! But then, I only found out a few months ago that it is no longer okay to wear panythose with open toed shoes and apparently this has been going on for years.

I agree msmogreen, it's hard to keep up with these wierd trends. My 16 yo daughter actually asked if it was OK if she waxed her arms....wtf?? This is when I found out that the average 16yo male is shaving his chest and girls are removing pretty much everything- and I mean everything, except for their heads....needless to say I told her that I didn't think she should wax her arms...what's next??

Crazyiness! What's next...what's left??? Women having the fuzz removed from their backs? I guess I should be in the hair removal business.

to be honest, esthetically I don't care whether one removes hair or not(except for my daughters of course:angry:)....but the upkeep must be a nightmare:surprised: I find a bikini cut enough trouble as it is!

Now I'm really laughing. I've been stressing out all week over an emergency trip to the states, the last thing on my mind is hair removal. I needed a little light-heartedness. I can only suspect what my daughters do when I have to fold panties. Can a string be folded? Thanks.

I'm hair today and gone tomorrow!

:laugh: You brought back a funny memory of my husband calling me while I was travelling for work asking me how to fold the girls panties...he was sooo distraught just at the thought that they were even wearing these things.... and then he said exactly the same thing...How do you fold a string:laugh:

I use Nair for men. It kinda smells and you have to be carfull of what kinda shirt you wear after, it feels a little weird and itchy. But that only lasts a day, i suggest do it at night befor bed, and sleep without a shirt. Oh ya and DO NOT put it around your balls or in that general area, i know someone who couldn't walk for a week because of that. And do not use soap while using, the chemicals in nair react to nair and cause a bad chemical burn.

I gave it a shot yesterday just to see what it's like. one day later my chest feels like sandpaper and is itchy. ugh. I would have to shave twice a day.

Nair HURTS!!! So does "Epil Stop", or whatever that stuff is called. It made me break out really bad.

Some day I will spend the money to have my chest hair taken off forever.
