I've been working out for 12 years. Been married to my wife for 4 years. She is 5'2" and weighs 100 lbs. I want her to work out to put some meat on her bones. She has had two kids and that made her lose weight. She is afraid she will get to big if she lifts. She won't listen to my advise on working out and not getting big.
Ladies any help would be appriciated.

I have 4 kids and after my 3rd i was 105lbs and 5'4" i worked out for almost 4 years before I had my 4th child and only gained 3 pounds. I go to the gym 3 days a week, and like to eat! Go for it!

I recommend that your wife excercise and start building muscle mass. Skinny is out....muscle is in! I was also afraid of this when I first started working out but it is in fact impossible for women to get big unless you are taking steroids. Good Luck...

Your wife will look really nice once she starts lifting. She doesn't have to lift like really heavy weights but enough to challenge her muscle. Tell her that muscule burns fat, plus if her built is tiny, she won't become huge. She'll have a wonderful toned figure.

I've recently started to lift again about 2 times a week. I've noticed after about a month of that and swimming had made my flabby arms look nicer. I still have a lot of work, but I'm getting there.

Hope this helps.

My wife has noticed that swimming has helped her to tone up. She has little time to work out (with 3 kids) home all day plus another to babysit. Lots of walking is good and lifting of course. One thing you can't do is to nag your wife or husband to workout. Bad news my friend. You keep it up and tell her how good you feel, etc. and maybe she'll get motivated too. Lift cool!!

I would suggest that she start out with light weights and high reps to tone up. She'll sone see that she's not going to turn into a man and begin to enjoy it. That is how my fiancee got me going!! Now I lift 4 days a week and I'm 5'4" 125lbs. Also, may I suggest her doing compound movements(using more than one muscle group) such as squats verses focused movements like leg extensions. These won't bulk you up as much because not just one muscle is being worked. Good Luck!!

Oh k00, compound exercises CAN bulk up. Using more than one muscle group versus just one (like squat and leg extensions) doesn't terminate the "degree" of bulking up....
It's all about the weight that you are using and the most important; the number of sets and repetions (not to mention the rest in between the sets and your diet).

You can't make someone do something they're not ready to do, the only suggestion I have is to have her look in some magazines, muscle &fitness Hers, oxygen ,etc. Let her see hpw beautiful these woman are, maybe it will motivate her. If she's afraid of gatting big--bygones--I lift heavy 3-4 days a week eat enough protein and carbs, still tiny, like many other women. You have to find out why she doesn't want to work out, maybe she feels intimidated, or likes being small and thinks she will look big or won't fit in her jeans, (probably end up going down a size), anyway she could have many reasons find out why if you don't already know. Most importantly don't nag her about it she may feel you don't like her the way she looks-not a good thing-with 3 kids it will help her releive stress and give her energy not to mention feel great!! Go for that aspect you don't want to make her feel insecure. Good luck in your quest!
