I can totally relate with you!! I limped for a whole weak too and they still haven't entirely healed and that was over 4 months ago! Lately I have been doing intervals of walking and jogging building up the muscle again, so far it seems to be working. Also I started to do towel scrunches to strengthen my shins.
I never got shin splints when I trail ran, or on a track, I think hard surfaces definetly make a huge differance.

Thanks for your advice, but what are towel scrunches?

towel scrunches are when you lay a towel flat/smooth on the ground, then using your toes scrunch up the towel, then repeat.

i get them too and a chiropractor told me it could be b/c of having flat feet. he suggested an orthopedic device (dr. scholls). i tried them yesterday in the gym and they did make a big differencE. also a GOOD pair of RUNNING (NOT CROSS TRAINERS) shoes helps immensely. if your shoes are old, more than 6 months, save yourself the pain and spend the money for new ones if you're going to run.
