I used to run for about 2 miles for 3 days, rest a day. I stopped running for about 2 months during the summer and then started up again. After about a week of this I had pain in my right hip in the joint. It wouldn't hurt when I was running, but afterwards and for the next day I couldn't bend my leg upwards from the hip. For example there was no way I could lift my leg over my motorbike, and stretching was difficult. I went to the doc and he said not to run for 2 weeks and then come back. I went back after 2 weeks and he says not to run for another 2 weeks...its been 4 weeks and I'm going crazy. I tried walking but any physical exercise to that area causes it to flair up again. I've tried ice skating but the exersion is too much. Any suggestions? I need to do cardio to lose the weight I need so I'm not flabby when I lose the weight!

Ok Here is what I think it is but I am not a doctor. It sounds like it could be tendonitist. This is only cured by complete rest....no xtra walking or ice skating or such exercises. This is most likely what the doc was meaning by no running.

Well it depends, the hip is a joint that has little chance for rest, cause you use it every time you walk. I had the tendon problem in my left arm.....took a month to heal all the way. But this type of problem is tricky, if you DO NOT let it heal it gets worse. So give it a few weeks of inactivity, then see.

Try taking some glucosamine and controidin together.
Ask your DR. first. My brother had the same problem and it cleared up after about 2-3 weeks.
These are over the counter products and don't require a prescription.

I can sympathize, my hip is still complaining after an injury nearly 4 years ago. Is there a possibilty that your cartilage is degenerating? The joint will hurt if there is too much friction. As for cardio, I run 30 minutes 4-5 days a week on the elliptical machine, try cardio with as little impact as possible as see if it helps. You can also take iboprofen (motrin/advil) to reduce inflammation and increase mobility. Good luck.
