Hi... the question I have is about protein suppliments, I can easily keep my calories under 1500 and keep my carbs and fats in check. But I am having a real hard time getting my protein grams up. I weigh 160 and I'm 5'7. not to bad, but I am trying to become more lean. The site reccomends a lot more than I'm used to eating.
Proteins... 170
Carbs...... 340
Fats....... 28
Calories... 2264
Somehow in my mind the calories are very high. But the only way I can get my calories and protein up are to make protein shakes and protein bars. Is there one type over another which is better? Right now I am using a soy protein powder. Is this as good as whey protein? If not, what is the difference?
thanks for the info...

Don't know if you found your information elsewhere by now, or if you even still come to the website :p. But soy protein powders should only be used for deficencies in protein. Soy & Whey are two complete differents. Use whey if you'd like to build lean muscle.

Actually I have fond whey to only be good Post Work Out and in a pinch 1st thing in the morning.

Want to build eat whole foods and use a more casein base powder like Milk Protein Isolate which is 80% casein and 20% whey just like milk.

I make my shakes thick by adding milk, strawberries and oats in the morning with my breakfast and milk, 2 ice cubes and cottage cheese at night.

For me Whey is a waste other then Post Work Out and in a pinch 1st thing in the morning.

I learned this from BB1fit and haven't turned back since!

What is this response in question to? I've spoken with a nutritionist on this topic and that's what I was told.. She said soy protein is only used for those who have defiencies in protein levels should take soy. This was the first and only defined answer i've gotten, and i've been following by it since day one.. I'm intrigued to know if you have another opinion/factoid towards this topic.. My response was mostly to see if I could generate a conversation on the topic because it's something i've been questioning myself and I'd like to find what others believe to be true..

i think soy is inferior for any purpose and there has been debate whether soy use can actually promote breast cancer in women....for protein deficiencies I would say casien, which sticks with your longer, whey which is rapidly absorbable and a mixture of the two for optimal results.

Muscle building - I use whey because i can't tolerate the casein, it upsets my system. the only downside is how quickly it is used up, not filling for very long. casein will clot in your stomach and take a little longer to digest.

not to offend any nutritionists out there, but unless they specialize in sports nutrition i don't think they often know what applies to athletes versus average joes.

Less than 1,500 calories at 160 pounds seems too low to me.
