Hi guys! I am a 37yr old Senior Technician with Dell computers. My daily tasks include sitting at my desk 10 hours a day and drinking Mt. Dews. I am 6' and weigh in at 240. About ten years ago I was up to a brown belt in Zen Bu Do and in great shape. I am in need of serious help. I am ready to start my life over and do what it takes to be happy with myself again. The first question I have is about calorie intake. I have read that my body requires anywhere from 1500 - 3750 calories a day. I need a number to base my intake on to lose the fat. I guess I'm fishing for a mentor.

Hi xpmcse! I, too am 37 and have recently lost 35 pounds over an 8 week period. How did I do it? Changing my diet and increasing my aerobic activity. As far as calories, I'll let the experts figure that one out for you. But as far as my diet, I stuck to eating plenty of salads (greens), lean meats occasionally, lots of fish, chicken and low-calorie desserts. I also cut my intake of rice and bread -- things that contain a lot of sugars and yeast. The main thing that made this diet work was the aerobic activity. You have to take up some sort of aerobic workout at least 3 times per week. Since you work 10 hours per day, try to squeeze some in during lunch or early in the morning (you may be too exhausted after work). After I lost all that weight, I have been weight training to build muscle mass. Also, you may want to try an ft program to help increase your metabolism. This will help, too.

Good luck!
