Whenever i do crunches or any other type of abdominal exercise, when i flex my ab muscles, theres this horrible lump/bump in the middle of my stomach. I do have some fat over by abs, but when i feel the 'lump' its hard so i know theres muscle under there. But why does it bunch up all in one place? Theres barely any muscle at the sides of my abs. this is really wierd, and i dont even work my abs that much - i'm kinda scared to in case it gets even bigger. Is there a way to kinda flatten out the muscle? Should i focus on obliques?

If it's really that abnormal maybe you should have a doctor check it out?

You could have a herniated muscle. If you're doing a lot of ab work this can happen.

hey, thanks for the replies. I'm not sure if it's that serious that i should see a doctor. returnofplex - the things is, i don;t do alot of ab work at all! in fact my ab muscles are pretty weak!
I'll try and take a pic of it if i can,

That doesn't sounds right...I wouldn't do any more ab workouts until a doctor looks at it

Get it checked out by doctor. It could be something as simple as a hernia. I actually had an Umbilical hernia. It was just above my navel. There is a natural weakness or hole in your abdominal wall near you navel. If you are doing heavy lifts or just improperly lift something it can happen and may progressively get worse.

I eventually needed surgery to repair mine. It felt like nothing more than a hard lump. At least get it checked out...
