Hi,I was reading an article saying that you should burn 500 calories a day for weight loss, is that true? and if so, if i take in at the most 1000 calories a day (just an example) would that mean i would have to burn 1500 calories a day for weight loss? is that how it would works?
Ohh and last question does anyody know how many calories are burned by doing the home training excersice that this website gives you? please help, Thanks |

One more question, my calorie intake that im supposed to take in is pretty high,if i can remember it was in the 2000's?, Is taking in under 1500 calories a day good or bad? Breakfast= Fiber One Cereal,Lunch= tuna wrap or chicken salad, Dinner= Fiber One Cereal or Hony nut cherrios, and during the day fiber one yougurt as a snack, is that ok?

What the article means is that a 500 calorie deficit per day in some manner will result in a weight loss. Doing the math, that is 3500 calories per week. A pound of body fat equates to approximately 3500 calories. So, you see where this rational comes in. though the 'math' works, often in reality it does not work out that way. Weight loss is not a linear proposition for the most part. The important factor is the calorie deficit, whether you lose 3lbs. one week and none the next week, you are on the right track and over the long term you do an average, which is normally where these 'average' numbers come from like 2 lbs. per week.-------------- Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer |

Fill out your profile and give some stats about your self and your goals then some one can help you but YES your diet is way to small.
Cereal for dinner is not a dinner! Just Cereal for breakfast is not a breakfast! Yo are snacking for meals and not actually eating a meal! -------------- Knock-Um Down & Keep-Um Down! |

You don't hav to burn more calories than you put in. You need to figure out your Basal Metabolic Needs, and eat less calories than that per day. If you fill out your profile on here it will tell you based on your current weigt and goals, how many calories to eat in order to reach those goals.

Without using confusing terms like base metabolic rate, etc., in plain english what this means again is a deficit through the day. You do not necessarily have to burn 500 calories. You simply have to take in in some manner 500 calories per day less than your maintenance level. This for example could be burning 250 calories, and reducing your food intake by 250 calories, thus the 500 total. With your caloric intake as low as it is, it becomes unfeasible at some point to cut food calories. Your body will fight you. SFGiants is correct to question your diet, I did not notice it the first time around.
Now the question will probably arise how do you figure your maintenance level? The absolute best way is to keep a diary of everything you put in your mouth (no cheating) for a week. Add the calories up, divide by 7. If you have neither gained or lost a lb. with your normal daily routine involved, exercise, work, etc., this should be very close to your maintenance levels. There are formulas you can use, but 'real world' is truly the test, as we are inherently different. A formula will get you close, but many, such as the one used by this site is always on the high side. ============ Quoting from problem428: ok i understand that, but in order to do that i would have to burn more calories a day then put in right? because the way i figure it is if you jus burn 500 calories and you put in 1000 your just burning the food you ate for that day right? please help me understand this ============= -------------- Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer |
