At the gym I normally did physical fitness routines, i.e. treadmill, cycling, cross trainer, rowing, ab crunches etc, but wanted to make my body more toned, so I changed my routine completely and began doing weights instead. I usually do the same routine on all my muscles 4 days per week, but one guy at the gym told me that this wouldn't work and that I should work on different muscles each day, giving my body time to adjust for about 72 hours before doing the same exercise again. However, someone else told me that this was nonsense and to continue with what I'm doing, i.e. the same workout on each muscle each day. I'm confused? All I want is the toned 6pk, pecs and obliques?

You're fine hitting the same muscles four times in a week, but I still wouldn't do the same exercises 4 times in a single week. Try different variations that hit the same muscles.

However, you're results are going to be limited if you are hitting just your abdominals and pectorals, no matter how frequently (or infrequently) you hit them.
