Ok, I've been going to the gym now for 3 months.(suppose to be 3 times a week but usually 2) I am on a lower carb diet also, usually meat and vegis, cheese and nuts and some some whole grains thrown in there occasionally. I also have a protein shake after exercising. anyway when I go to the gym on monday and say do a back/bi workout with 20mins of cardio. the next day I am so physically tired and drained feeling. I get at least 8 hours of sleep. And all I want to do is sleep all day. so on wed. I make myself go again and say I do legs. by thurs and friday you can forget it im am totally drained and so fatiged feeling. whats up? can anyone tell me what im doing wrong? I thought being physically active and fit is suppose to give you more energy. Am I needing some kind of extra protein? I feel like I get plenty..Im usually eating at least 6 small meals a day. Im wanting to give up on the whole exersice deal!

You must keep in mind that low carb diets are not for everyone. Carbs are in fact your bodies main source for glucose(fuel). Here's some food for thought (pardon the pun), but in moments of peak mental performance your brain alone may demand up to half the glucose in your bloodstream. So, despite all the 'hoopla' over low carb diets, carbs are essential for optimal mental performance, focus, and brain speed. Add in the needs of the body for the funtion of working out on a regular basis, and you begin to get the picture. Some folks function well on a low carb diet, but as mentioned in the opening sentence, this is not for everyone.

You are not getting enough sleep? Can you elaborate? What time do you go to bed? How long do you lay there before you fall asleep? What time do you get up in the morning? How much sleep do you get in a typical night?

A few tips, try going to bed at the same time every night. Follow a routine before bed that will signal to your brain that it's time to shut down and go to bed. For example, I do 30 minutes of yoga, wash my face and do that whole thing, then sit down in my robe and watch "The Office" while I drink a cup of Chamomille tea. By the time I hit the sack, I'm out. A lot of people can not watch TV before bed because it is too stimulating. I would recommend NOT watching TV before bed unless you know that you can handle it before bed. Also be sure to get up at the same time every day. I get up early on the weekends even. If you constantly alter your sleep schedule you with throw off your natural carcadian rhythms making it difficult to sleep. Good luck.

You might be suffering from sleep apnea. I am not posting to to talk about me here, but I was fighting myself for years and not knowing I suffer from this. If you experience fatigue, often, during the day, while reading, watching tv, driving, a day after working out, sometimes even feeling like you never slept, but you think you had 8-9 hrs sleep get checked.
You may not be waking up consciously when you stop breathing but your brain is waking up therefor causing you to not sleep. If you are experiencing many apeneas per hour, you are not even getting to rem stage of sleep, and your body is not even getting rid of co2 in your blood stream. Consider apnea as one of the causes before giving up the gym or changing diet. There are many Doctors and Labs that can diagnose Sleep Apnea.
