I recently started gym, and i noticed after a week that
i started having pain in the left part of my back right under the waist line, my coach has told me to stop doing sit ups but it has been a week since then, and any time i try to do any sit ups, after about 10 of them the pain starts coming back.

Just to recap...

It hurts when you do sit ups...
You were told to stop doing sit ups...
It still hurts when you do sit ups...

Enough said.

Why do you keep doing sit ups? Your coach told you not to, and maybe I'm mistaken but I really don't know that they offer a benefit and can be known to cause back trouble. If you are doing them for abs, that is old school, look up some good ab work. Sorry, I'm just a mom and when my kids say "Mom it hurts when I stick my finger in my eye" I say "Then don't stick your finger in your eye". You know?

It's ok. If you hadn't posted that, someone would have come back and yelled at me for not being more clear and for picking on people...

Try to stretch your lower back that may be a problem or it may be a nerve. You never know. I have lower back pain i think due to weakness. when i try to do a standing hamstring stretch practically just stretcing down to touch my toes it hurts. I dont know if thats a similiar pain. I stretch it sometimes it feels better also i was told if its sore it usually because you have a muscle imbalance do some back crunches or light dead lifts i know for a fact dead lifts work the lower back FEELS AMAZING

It's possible that it is that your hip flexor is taking over and pulling at the spinal column. In fact, that is most likely what it is.

If this is the case, it's not that you should never do them, but also that crunches wouldn't be a good abdominal exercise for you anyways, since your hip flexor will just overcompensate.
