I was wondering what a better HIIT routine was to burn fat. I carry a lot of fat in my stomach/chest area which are my problem areas. I want to start doing HIIT 3x/week but have heard of a couple different methods. Which would be better...?

2 min warm up on 3.5 mph
1 min at 4.5mph
1 min at 5.5
1 min at 6.5
1 min at 7.5, back down to
1 min at 3.5, so on
This is repeated 3 times for about 20 minutes

OR

2 min warmup on 3.5
1 min at 7.5 mph
1 min at 3.5 mph
1 min at 7.5 mph
1 min at 3.5 mph
Etc, for 20 minutes

Thanks!

The first one wouldn't really be intervals... it would just be running faster and faster and then backing down.

As a general rule, I like to keep my rest (slow) periods shorter than my working periods when doing HIIT. Just a guideline.

I have been doing a warmup at 3.5 for 3 minutes, then 8.0mph for 1 min, then down to 3.5 for 2 minutes - do this process 7 times for about 24 minutes. How does this session sound? Or should I modify it?

That sounds like a nice HIIT routine. I warm up at 4.0 for 2 minutes, then 1 minute at 9.0 , 1 minute at 3.5. I do this for 15 minutes.

Best of Luck!
