For the first one......I think you are feeling a normal thing....as long as you push through the heels of your feet and keep that back flat you are good to go. I set it down as easy as i can on lighter sets and a bit harder on heavier....but that is me....I think controlling it does help add some strength to the over all movement.

1. My form seems ok, but I do feel an immense amount of pressure of my lower back when pulling. Afterwards I don't feel sore, but a tad stiff. I've had people critisize my form and say it's ok, my back stays straight, knees don't move, etc.

2. It's supposed to be put down somewhat quickly, right? I've heard it's dangerous to prolong the negative phase. I've been getting complaints at my school gym that I'm "slamming them too hard" or that I'm "going to damage the weights" somehow.

1) If you just started DLing then I am not really surprised that your lower back hurts. One thing to look out for is where the weight is on your feet. I find that when things like dls, slds, rdls or GMs hurt my lower back I am usually on my toes a little more than I should be. You really want the weight on your heals. Pay attention to this next time you do it. Your heals can be flat on ground even though the weight is on your toes. Also are you sucking a big breath into your stomach and pushing out hard on your abs?

2) I drop it controlled. Basically, I drop it, but I keep my hands on the bar.

My heels are definetely on the ground, in fact I often feel my toes lifting from the groud during my descent.

I don't care about the descent. That doesn't matter as much. The weight needs to be on your heals on the way up.

The form of your descent usually does reflect how the positive phase will go down. I'm pretty sure the weight is on my heels on the way up.

Nope. Not at all. This is why the eccentric phase of the deadlift is often refered to as being dangerous, because of the fact that you can not lower the weight the same way without losing balance.

You should know, it shouldn't be a pretty sure. Anything less than 1-2 times bodyweight and you should almost feel like you are going to stumble backwards.

Well I don't feel like I'm stumbling backwards, but I am doing almost double my bodyweight anyway.

When I can I might post a video, that'll be easier to critisize. Only problem is that I don't know if I can do deadlifts anymore without being hassled.

Yea, the hassling thing can be a serious detriment.

When you do get to do them, make a conscious effort to keep the weight back.
