Believe it or not, the bench press won't be the panacea for your body composition goals. The more important questions would be things like "what other compound moves should I be doing?" and "how should i configure sets, reps, and rest periods?"

another important question...why does it matter?

You have to learn to follow, before you can lead.

steve 10$ OP did not know what panacea meant...lol

doesnt matter

look up following lifts ...learn proper form...and do them:

DEADLIFTS(ZERCHER, SLDSL, SUMO, DIMEL, ROMANIAN)
SQUATS(ZERCHER, POWER, OLYMPIC, FRONT, OVERHEAD)
OVERHEAD PRESSES(JERKS, MILITARY PRESSES, PUSH PRESSES, SIDE PRESSES, BENT PRESSES)
WEIGHTED CHINS UPS/PULL UPS
WEIGHTED DIPS
GOOD MORNINGS
BENT OVER ROWS/DYNAMIC ROWS
CLEANS(POWER, FULL, HANG)
SNATCHES(POWER, HANG, FULL)
BENCH

start doing these lifts for reps of 5-8 and learn good form...then as you mature lower the reps and use more weight....or use lighter % of your maxes for low reps for a few years than bump up the % as you become older....
