Am I missing something. How can it be possible to acheive progressive gains and at the same time loose weight. It sounds like an oxymoron to me

Yeah, it pretty much is. You can still get stronger while losing weight from improved muscle coordination. This is especial true for newbs, but you really need to be gaining weight to put on muscle.

Thats what I thought. I'm on my 3rd x 8 week weight loss tone schedule. I am gaining chest arms and legs smaller abs but no weight loss

You can sort of ying yang and by that I mean you can lose a little weight and gain a little muscle and stay about the same weight. I don't really understand why this happens, but it usually only happens in people with a relatively low training age. I hypotheses that it has to do with your metabolize. When you lose weight it will inevitably mess with your metabolize a little. My guess is that your metabolism slows down a little after you lose some weight and then you are gaining it back as muscle. Don't use the scale. If you feel and look leaner and the measurement are confirming this then you are doing something right. Just because you are not lose weight does not mean that you are not making progress.

I can attest to Pemdas's observations there, when I first started (+/- 10 years ago) I lost truck-loads of weight while gaining muscle and strength (though I was morbidly obese at the time). It tapers off once your body reaches a certain point, thats when you stop looking at the scale as a gauge of progress and start paying attention to the jiggle ;)
