Hi, I'm 34, male, and 355 pounds. I'm new to the site and working out. I have been active all my life, but the last few years I have let myself go. I recently decided to change myself. I quit smoking and drinking (3 months on the wagon, happily), and started one of this sites workout regiments (increase metabolism and loss weight).
I just finished week 5, and work-out 3 times / Week (weights) and do cardio 5 times / week. I want to diet, but I am confused. This site's calorie intake calculator says I should be taking in 5500 cal/day, but other sites say I should take in as little as 2900 cal/day. Is more better, or does the working out counter the low calories. And how do you eat 5 or 6 times a day? I work a swing shift job between 2nd and 3rd shifts. I have cut my calories to 3500/day for the last 2 weeks as a starting point and have not failed to make and complete a workout yet.
I want to lose weight, and have lost only 5 pounds so far. I don't expect to loss 50 pounds in a month, but 5 in a month seems a little low.
Just want some idea of the correct calorie amount and good dieting tips. I'll get the weight off, even if it is 5 pounds a month and it takes me 3 years.
Thank you all.

The calories from this site tend to be on the high side first off.
Healthy fat loss (the kind you can actually keep off) generally is seen in 1-2 pounds per week. At 5 pounds it seems like you are on that track. Maybe cut your calories down a little more and see how that takes you.
5-6 meals doesn't necessarily mean full meals. Eat a full breakfast, then have a snack 3 hours later or so (something like some peanuts, fruit, yogurt, etc). Eat a full lunch and then another snack a few hours later, and then a good dinner. The key is to make your body realize that food is coming and it doesn't need to hold on to the fat as a survival instinct anymore.
Remember, you're changing your lifestyle so don't expect it overnight. It took some years to put it on so if you want to keep it off then it may take some time. Don't give up.
