I work 12 hour rotating shifts. Either 7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am. I try to work out everyday. However with children and working night shift sometimes i miss a workout.
My question is when I do skip a workout, would it be beneficial to do say like two workouts in one day to make up for the lost one?? Or is it better to cut my losses and skip the missed workout.
I currently do the following for my workouts:
Weights: day 1 back, shoulders, abs, calves
day 2 biceps, tripceps,abs, calves
day 3 legs and butt, abs
I do 3 exercises per body part with 3 sets 8-12 reps each. Also on all of these days I do a slim in six workout video.
If it is not beneficial to double up on workouts,,,do you have any suggestions for anything I can do for the days that I don't have time to complete my full workout???:)
Thank you all very much ahead of time.

you want to try and do a 3-4 day a week workout so if you are hard pressed stay off a schedule just know you have 3-4 days off a week, I do it with 2 kids and a nagging/bad marriage so i take off whenever family is needed first or i am not feeling it

I'd just do your best to adapt your workouts to the time that you have. if you occasionally miss a workout, no big deal. if you are consistently unable to workout on certain days, then make the days you can work out worth it! I tend to keep my routines flexible enough that I can adjust accordingly. How long to you currently spend doing your workouts. The best advice I can give you is to do whatever you feel most comfortable with, if that's doubling up, go for it...BUT...listen to your body. if you getting prone to injury, loosing motivation to workout or are getting more fatigued, you need to rethink your stategy. Hope this helps a bit. Good Luck!

Sorry, but reading your post I have another suggestion. You may be better off focussing on full body workouts with exercises like squats, lunges, pushups, pull downs, rows, presses etc. That way you'll won't miss a body part when you miss a workout. It's also a smarter way to work out. You can always add some isolation moves at the end of your "big" moves.

I workout five days a week doing a different major muscle group each day. In that format It works for me to double up sometimes because I work different muscles from one workout to the next. It is easier to combine Legs with shoulders than most of my others so I try to be picky about when I choose to skip and double up.
