I work at Nextel now, and one of the perks for me is we get a discount at a local gym, and Nextel will pay 75% of the bill for a personal trainer. It's a job where you sit down all day, so they understand the need for fitness. I was wondering if some of you have some good tips on what to expect in a good trainer. You know what to look for and what not, how much experience should I look for.. things like that thanks much.... Sev.

You need to pick a Gym where your going to be working with a trainer and a time from and take time to watch them all!

Take as much time as needed and while your at it talk to them and feel them out!

You want a trainer that will listen to you.

You want a trainer that is FIT.

Also our best bet is too watch them workout and this will tell you if they even have a clue and give you a style to choose from!

Some talk a bunch of shit and a lot will even try to diagnose an injury, these are RED FLAGS and trainers to stay away from! I don't go to my Doctor for a hair cut and sure don't expect a trainer in a fast food type gym (24 hour fitness sect) too do S reconstruction job on my wrist!

These fast food type gyms give these (Mostly kids) a few weeks in a crash course learn to be a trainer and then call them Professionals, IMO in anything it take YEARS to become a PRO and most of these trainers are actually APPRENTICES in the learn themselves but won't admit it!

I'm all for working with a trainer but you have to remember it's your body and these kids are snot nosed and most in there 1st job, I saw 1 Kid having and 80 year old guy doing squats barbell and all and other weight baring stuff, that man last 2 weeks, I saw another having an old lady do oblique work and Iso abs and the lady needed breaks and the trainer would get rude with a nose in the air hair flicking snob at the old lady and basically say whatever, lets go, come on!

Oh and the famous catch they tell everyone, you can get fit eating what you want and still get fit and six pack abs if you like eating anything you want.

Then there are the ones that are so cool and nice and listen and will work great with you.

Personally trainers are like most occupations, most arn't even good at it and some are real good and a few are GREAT! Out of our 5 Gyms 3 are Great, a few are really good and the rest don't train themselves and some are even FAT!

TAKE YOUR TIME! and TAKE YOUR TIME! But make sure before you choose if you feel you made a bad choice that you can change trainers, My gym allows this to happen!

Yea theres a golds gym here, I talked to the training director, they have a staff of personal trainers there with degrees in kineseology (sp) and atleast 5 years experience. I'm gonna feel them out, I'm only paying for 6 sessions on an every 2 weeks basis right now just to feel them ut and what not. i have to go in sat for an assessment to find out what I can and can't do, what type of diet plan I should have. What things I'll need to be careful with and whatnot, and what trainer I mesh with the best.

Usually you can read a biography about the trainers at the gym. This will tell you any degrees, certifications, specialties, that they may have , including thier main sports activity and interests.

A little discipline at the table and at the gym might help reduce that belly!
