From reading through the archives i've found that many of you only work your legs once a week or perhaps once a fortnight? Why is this?

Admittedly my legs tend to be tired for alot longer than any muscle group after a workout, but i have been working them twice a week.

Just feel i may be missing something?

If you train legs heavy and with big exercises..that places stress not only on your legs...but on your whole body...dont think of it as training legs...think of it as using the biggest of exercises to train your whole body....namely squats, deadlifts, lunges, step ups, etc....exercises where u can use very heavy weight....which stresses not only your muscles but also the central nervous system....it's the CNS that often needs a lot of time to recover...

can u train your legs 2-3 times a week? sure...but u also have to account for the lack of rest by using less weight, sets, etc...

I take the exact opposite approach I train very heavy and infrequently and use the extended off period to recover....I train legs every 2-3 weeks and that works for me fairly well...especially since my primary goal is strength...

starting out its often best to experiment with what works for u....some respond better to high intensity low volume , other get better results through lower intensity volume training, others respond better with frequent moderate intensity training....also the methods you choose often depend on your goals....strength? muscle gains? general fitness? sport performance? etc...

thnx menace, i've been doing squats, lunges...and when in better knowledg...deadlifts (just afraid of stressing my back), all at low volume high intesity.

yes, i'm not sure why i was just looking as them as "leg" workouts knowing full well im using most my body.

my goal is muscle gain whilst bearing in mind i would like to compete on the track again within a year or two as i miss it dearly. any recommendations menace?

I think it depends on your body....some like menace need that time. I used to do one leg day a week. Now I follow a Westside Powerlifting plan and do one heavy day and a light day. That seems to work well for me.
