2 day split to 3 day split?

I read that as a beginner it's best to start with a 2 days split when weight training. At what point do you know when to break your workout down into a 3 day split.. breaking up the muscle groups?

I usualy say about somewhere in the 2nd month or so. Depends on you and how you react to the added stress of lifting.
