Ugggg. I have veins popping through my arms and tops of hands and it looks horrible!
Brief history - I'm about 5' 4" - lost 50 lbs. through diet and excersise just about a year ago and have been at about 118 lbs. - I'm looking a bit thin but am happy with the results of strength training - am well toned and maintain a low fat diet. I just raised my calories to 1800 (Protein=145 gr, Carb=235 gr, Fat=36 gr)which is keeping me steady. I drink about a galllon of water a day.
My problems?
1. I am cold ALL THE TIME - almost from the inside out. I always tended to be on the cold side but now it is severe. I have low blood pressure which is part of the problem but it is unnatural to be this sensitive to the cold. Eating actually makes me colder - go figure. I was tested for Thyroid and it was determined it was not an issue - might be wrong but I show no other side effects of thyroid problems.

2. The veins in my arms are HUGE! They have popped like crazy (all of a sudden) and actually have come out after I've stopped strength training (used to follow light routine from FT but have not had time recently so I've been doing Pilates now and again and some running). They extend from my shoulders right through my hands and they are so visible that strangers have commented on them. What the hell? They are very ugly and I want them GONE.

Help!

Great - is there such a thing as too low body fat and am I supposed to increase? Seems counterproductive! Weird how they popped when I slowed down/stopped strength training. What about trying to build muscle do you think that would that make them more or less noticeable?

If you pack on more muscle they'll be more noticeable. You'r veins run on the outside of your skeletal structure closests to the skin...your muscles run along your bones...so if you put on more muscle then you'll essentially push your veins out.

If your goal is to continue to put on muscle then just make sure you put on a little extra fat at the same time...just increase your diet enough and you'll increase your Bodyfat till you reach a good point that you want to maintain.

YOu have an interesting situation....vascularity as mentioned comes with leaness, but is also a product of heat. It is one of your bodies way of cooling itself. Ever notice when you are extremely hot, your veins will be popping? Your body is sending blood flow to the areas. When you get cold, your veins are bascially non existant? Kind of like a turtle going in its shell.
