Hi all. New hear. I'm not so much interested in muscle mass as i am in losing the gut.
i am 34, 5'6" 178. I'd LOVE to lose 10 lbs.
I try (stress try) to get to the gym 3-4 days a week.
i do 30min on the bike.
I do 20min on the treadmill. My program now is the following

1 min 3.0 0 incline
1 min 3.0 2 incline
1 min 3.5 0 incline
1 min 4.0 0 incline
1 min 4.0 2 incline
10 min 5.0 0 incline
then 5 min back down.

any other suggestions?

Hi Lee.I was in your same boat a couple of months back
(same age,175 pounds, same height),I've lost about 15 pounds. You aren't interested in gaining muscle(neither was I) but weight training will really speed up the process!! I'm sure someone here can get more technical, but it has something to do with muscle being a goood fat burner.I've lost weight alot faster doing both cardio AND weight training. They have great strength training routines on this site.Give it a try for a couple of weeks. You might not see a huge weight loss, but if you measure you will see the inches just falling off(Ilost 20 inches in just over two months doing both)!!Good luck!

i agree with KC, I started by doing both cardio and strengh training, and i lost a lot of incehes but i didnt see much on the weight, cause i gained muscle...but then i stopped the weight training(couldnt go to the gym), i upped my cardio for 4 weeks i dint see a strong visible change apart for some pounds. In short i saw a lot of positive change when i incorporate strength. this trainer told: 20% CARDIO, 40% DIET and 40% WEIGHT TRAINING.

thanks...when i have time (job 2 little kids) i do some weights as well. My prob too is i am on a low dose of Lexapro which i think is making it harder to lose the weight. I am not the greatest eater but have been doing better.

Hi again Lee!!!As far as strength training you can do that at home!!You can use your own body weight(ie squats, pushups, chair dips)or get some hand weights and start from there.Thats the beauty of strength training at home with the kids...not so many machines!!Pop in a half hour tape you know the kids will sit all the way through and start your routine.I started with water bottles and cans(a suggestion from this site)while I was deciding if this is what I really wanted to do,now I have some hand weights and rubberbands. You'll be sore at first ...but it feels good!Have fun!!!
