Few questions here. First of all, after doing some research on the forums I found that it's okay to do cardio after weights if you have a lot of excess fat to burn (weight loss is my primary concern).
I've been researching HIIT as well, and have found that it's better for weight loss.
Now here's the question, is it okay to do HIIT after weights if I have enough energy?

Its ok if it fits your needs. That is, if wieght loss is your primary goal, and mind you it will be weight loss, probably not all fat loss, then yes. You will have to make that decision.

I thought that if someone had a lot of extra fat stored that it'll lose that first, and the muscle will stay.
Is this wrong?

Well, yes for the most part. You will not notice any muscle loss if fat is abundant. And if fat is abundant, then this would be a good choice, as weight loss should be your top priority. You can worry about gaining muscle later.
