What is the easiest way to prepare egg whites? How many should I have for breakfast?

Throw them in a pan and cook them.

Throw them in the microwave and cook them.

Pour them in a shake and drink them. (as long as they are in a carton and pasturized...not a good idea to eat raw egg whites that you've separated from yolk and shell)

Can't get much easier than that!:)

The egg whites I buy have 25cal/50ml, no fat, no carbs and lots of protien, so you can eat a fair bit for breakfast. Some people will make an omelet from 4 whites and 1 yolk.

I eat 5 egg whites and 1 whole egg every morning. I just put them in the microwave for approx 2:30 min, add a slice of 2% cheese, then go another 1:30. I also add some sugar free syrup. Tastes great but my family says that they smell awful

thanks for the replies flyonthewall and atiger. I assume you can buy egg whites already separated from the yolk right?

yes, the brand around here is Egg Beaters. They are rather expensive. For the amt that I eat, it can add up. I buy eggs and simply remove the egg whites. I have this little egg yolk separater that makes it easy to remove the yolks

i eat about 10 egg whites a day. i just use boiled eggs, cut em in half and take the yolk out myself. you can throw em on some whole grain bread with a couple slices of tomatoes for a nice healthy sandwich.

Usually have 1 or 2 shakes a day with 8 ounces egg whites, among other things.

I've always had a bitch of a time doing pure egg white omelettes so I now use Egg Beaters (or preferably the much cheaper market brand) for scrambled, omlettes or hot breakfast sandwiches. I can't tell the taste diff between those & real eggs & there's no missing nutrition versus using strictly the whites.

I appreciate all the input, but I normally have a protein shake before I workout. Is it best to consume egg whites in the morning?

As for the time of the day, it does not matter. As long as it fits into your calorie range. Sometimes i eat them at night.
Just realized that my post for a while ago should say that I remove the egg YOLKS not whites

wait a minute fellas, i eat around 3 egg whites and an egg yolk with skimmed milk and pepper for scrambled, three days a week.

now i would eat eggs every day but have this stigma that too many eggs aren't good for the heart nor cholesterol levels? is this right?

having a great body is one thing, but the heart is more important.

Eating an egg a day (with yolk) is supposed to be okay. Adding egg whites shouldn't make any difference. Eating foods high in cholesterol does not raise your blood cholesterol so much as eating foods high in saturated or hydrogenated fats. That is my understanding.

I have been told that eggs with a blueish tent to them are low to no cholestrol. I have never found them in the stores, but have a man whose chickens lays em.

I think the new concensus is that Eggs have little to no impact on bad Cholesterol levels. I lost 30 lbs in 9 months and took my total cholesterol from 325 to 185 (with goods and bads being in reasonable ranges as well as shrunk my liver). Guess what I ate everyday? Scrambled eggs just about every morning for breakfast. Partially because it was readily available to me in the mornings at work because we had a diner that brought food in...but it worked well for me all around.

I have also heard that eggs are not so good for cholesterol levels... but I guess the latest trend is that there is only a myth, right?, maybe 4 whites and 1 yolk in a morning shake :dumbbell:
