hey,

I was just wondering about the usage of creatine....

How many g?
How often?
And for how long?

I heard that you should take btw 3-5g, every time after workout for 1-2 months.....

how long is then the not-taking break?

Thanks for you information!

If your taking monohydrate, some say just take it 5g daily before or after workout, some say 5g before AND after is best, some say you don't have to load it, just take it daily and after 3 or 4 weeks your muscles are plenty saturated, some say to load it by taking four 5g servings spaced out thru your day for 4 or 5 days and that will saturate your muscles, no need to cycle it. If your taking the ester there is no need to load it. You gotta be the youngest looking 23yr old out there, bet you get carded a lot. Personally I would go without it until you get to a point where you absolutely need it, like a sticking point, or plateau for instance, most people take it before they need it so they never realize the benefits of it. Just because your from Austria doesn't mean you have to live up to Arnold. Good luck!

yeah i do look pretty young. I started taking it after I hit a muscle build plateau (pics r 6-9 months old) I am hitting since about 4 months 4-5 days a week the gym and I see great results.... thats why i introduced creatine now to my afterworkout protein shake.... :)

I took creatine and I gained mass and I was in great shape, but then I got married and stop working out and lost all my muscle mass plus more. I wouldn't recommend it. I wish I could show you my picuters.

You gained water weight from the creatine. Not MASS. When you quit taking it, you lost the water weight.

You lost your mass due to improper diet and muscle atrophy, not because you stopped taking creatine.

I've heard that Creatine is a waste of money and tastes terrible, its very important for the rebuilding of muscle but you get it from your food anyway (meat etc.)Thats just what i've heard anyway, What do you guys think?

Your body can't produce the quantities that you get from the supplement. I haven't had much experience with creatine, but the one I have does taste bad!!!

creatine is awesome. Just need to be educated.
http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/creatine/creatine-faq.htm
there is a quick article but just some facts to help you out. Creatine should only be taken 2.5-5 grams per day no more. DON'T do a loading phase you will waste you money and if you take the avg dose of 5 grams you will be saturated with creatine in 21 days. Make sure to drink at least a gallon of clean water per day. And cycle it, creatine taking to long is fine if you keep taking it, but once done lets say for good your own body production will pretty much stop. So do 8 weeks on and 1 week off repeat. Doesn't really matter when you take creatine since it takes a day to process so after your workout is fine, just so people know taking preworkout does nothing. Mix it in with your pwo shake (Post workout)

thats what i was wondering about quality. Could there be such a difference in quality that you don't respond at all to a cheaper version but do to a more expensive one??

I have taken different types and brands of creatine. Check with you local GNC store or ask around on this site for the best brands for your money. Some of the creatine out there are loaded with sugars for better taste. And we all know what to much sugar can do. Don't over do creatine as it will cause your body to stop it's natural production.

This is the first time I have ever seen anyone give a recommendation to go to gnc! :-P Anyway SKW Trostberg AG (in Germany) holds a patent on a process for purifying creatine, supposed to be really top notch stuff! Haven't tried it myself though. I'm pretty sure they sell their product to other companies to market under their labels as well. (Although I may be remembering a different company?) As for the comments about the loading phase, it's not necessarily a waste of money. If you don't load it will take longer for it to fully enter your system and therefore you won't see the gains as quickly before you should end the cycle. You don't need to load though, it will eventually enter your system at high enough levels. For most people the money part of loading isn't the issue since you will most likely have left over creatine at the end of your cycle. Don't keep it for too long after it's open because it will go stale before you want to use it again. (Although I suppose you could :-/) A better reason for not loading may just be that you don't want to. Anyway good luck!

Most of the research I have looked at about creatine says that you will gain mass when you start taking it but it is a waste of time. When you take creatine you end up lowering your level of natural creatine produced by the body and then when you stop taking creatine it can take months for you creatine levels to return to normal. During this period you will lose most of, if not all of your mass gained from the use of your creatine suppliment.

dave, creatine helps build muscle but I haven't heard of it helping maintain muscle. That would be determined by your diet I would think.

I never thought of it that way before. You do make a valid point.

Dave, this may be a true statement if you take creating for extended periods of time without cycling off but I don't think that you can claim this to be a factual statement without further clarification and information on what sort of time frame you are speaking of when you state that your body will slow it's natural production of creatine.

Also muscle loss is not a result of stopping creatine as much as a result of a crap diet. Please do more research before posting as fact.

So if say your creatine body production stops, what then? You have to keep taking creatine forever?
Also, is it safe on kidneys, and heart?

Our own body production naturally drops with age anyway.
