On the day that I make my workouts up I wonder is there any absolute guidelines I should follow when picking them out... I am getting 2 exercises per major muscle group and only training the major one time per week and am using a 3 day split... I don't think there isn't anything really that would be overtraining with this but any warnings?

Your profile says you're wanting to put on mass. No offense but I would really be surprised if you're showing much progress. Have you tried any of the FT programs? From your post, 2 exercises per and assuming 3 sets each .... If you're only doing 6 sets for a major muscle group you aren't going to put on much mass unless you're lifting some huge weight. Even then it will be marginal.

What makes you assume I haven't shown much progress. Actually, in fact I did try the 8 week mass program. I gained about 13 lbs on it and hit a plateau that's why I'm making new workouts. I DON'T use a 3 set per exercise, I go 4, and I always lift heavy. The mass programs are designed the same way, 2 exercises per muscle group, so why criticize how I am constructing mine when FT does theirs the same way?
