I was driving the other day and noticed that a vein on my hand was standing out. It is by the first finger and runs between that and the thumb. I was kind of shocked as I really do not have many that you can see raised up. I took a look at that hand while stopped at a light. I was amazed to see many more veins sticking out. Bigger ones smaller ones. Some that ran all over in funny places. So you ask how does that make you proud? I do not know how to explain it. I felt so accomplished somehow. I mean do not get me wrong I am not a fitness cover model but Damm when I grab something and carry it my hands look freaky! LOL I guess it excited me because in my eyes it means that I am getting leaner to a certain extent.

the other day i grabbed a cynder block by the middle with one hand to carry it over, and then realized that it was really easy to hold. Must be my hands getting stronger as a result of my dedicated grip work and climbing. -------------- Your two most important minerals: Iron and Chalk. sometimes i feel proud when looking at my veins on my hands and tops of my feet. they're not really large, i aint really muscly and im far from what u would call "lean" but that fact i can see em makes me proud.
also abnormally large sticky out bones like the ones on my wrist make me proud...i dunno why...maybe i'm intrigued by weird body things... |

congratulations mutt....it's the little things that make us proud and make us realize how far we've come....
in the beginning we think about 300 bench press or 500 deadlift....or 1000 squat...and when we get there after years of dedication...it almost seems unimpressive...as you only notice small progressions in weight...and it doesn't hit you right away....however small things like being able to do something in life or noticing something about your body which wasn't your primary goal for fitness or weight lifting....really makes you realize how far you've come... congratulations on everyone's fitness achievements no matter how small or large...:)

I didn't have muscles in my legs that I could see until a couple of months ago. The otherday I noticed that my triceps do look like horseshoes. I can run 3.2 miles now which I never thought I'd be able to do in one run. None of them sound like much, but they are all things I never thought I'd ever see or do. It's the little successes that keep me working out.-------------- Happy trails, Mike Young "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." — Aristotle |

yea funny you say that menace.....cause in highschool....your first "milestone" is to bench 200, and squat 300.........funny how now i've passed that its like man that was light lol. I reamember I thought my weight lifting coach wa sa "god" cause ne benched over 300! I was like thats alot of weight lol.....
Mut I know what you mean too, the tops of my hands the only place I see veins.....hoping to get one or 2 in my forearms soon. -------------- Friends don't let friends squat high... People don't reach thier true potental, only those who seek it. |

Yea Andrew....same thing...in 9th grade... i worked out quite a bit...pretty much all upper body and could not get 135 for the life of me...I was just hoping to get that 1 rep...funny how light it seems...or when I first tried 225 3 years back with 2 spotters and had them lift the weight off of me when I couldn't even do 1/2 rep....
I used to be somewhat chubby in HS...so now to see all these veins on my arms is so freaky...especially when I work out...when my forarms/biceps become extremely veiny...and the veins come out out of the skin.... Myoung I totally agree...it's those thigns that help us keep motivation...sometimes it's those 5 extra lb on a lift...other times it's cool to see a horsehoe for triceps...or to actually see all the splits in the quad...or split in the hamstrings or calves... or even the totally seemingly unrelatec things like improved quality of sleep or how you react to life's events more evenly....I tend to really appreciate things like this...(I used to be a chronic insomniac in HS....used to lay in bed for 3-4 hours...trying to fall asleep...)...now I sleep like a bear....(and according to my friends look like one as well...lol... o well)...

that's kind of funny, I'm in highschool and being able to do 200lbs 3 reps 6-10 and squat 300 reps 6-10 are two of my major goals. I think I'll be there by next summer as football season is coming to a close and I'm sooo pumped up to start concentrating on general fitness again.
One of my biggest pleasures is being able to make my pec twitch. It's funny, I was able to do so after 10 weeks or so of training yet it is still so entertaining. I also love seeing all my veins in my forearms and that big one that runs up the bicep pop out during arm work outs. I've been doing an extra anaerobic cardio session weekly to drop more body fat so it stands out more. Did one today, 2 minute warm up 16 minutes at 9mph on treadmill, finally 1 minute sprint at 11mph and then my cool down, man was I gasping for air at the end of that. |
