I know that you should only use dextrose PWO, but what about maltodextrin? I believe it is more complex than dextrose. Does that mean I can add some to the rest of my daily shakes for extra carbs?
Thanks

malto is good after a workout too.. you should go half and half between the two. if you are looking to up your carbs, by all means, add some in.

Malto, though classified as a complex carb, is very decieving. It is only classified as complex because of the bonds. Long chains are those over 10 sugar molecules, short under 10. But in this case it is decieving, as these bonds are broken so very easily. It is an easily digested carbohydrate made from cornstarch. It is actually almost as fast broken down as dextrose is, in fact just behind it. This is why it is very decieving what supplement companies and food producers do, they are able to list no sugars for instance when the product in fact has malto in it. But by definition, it is a complex carb, so therefore by law they can do this. I would not add malto to your shakes during the day, will induce increased insulin response, which is not a good thing for anyone. A strategic insulin spike like pwo is good, but very few other times.

Thanks for the info guys.
BB1, why do people add dextross and maltodextrin to their PWO shakes if they are both broken down just as quickly, is there another reason why they dont use just dextrose?
