Hi everyone, my names Brian and I'm 16 years old. I used to play football and now I officially have a year to get back into the sport I love. I'm only 128 lb's and 5'10. Is gaining two pounds of muscle a month an unrealistic goal? Thank everyone.

thats probably one of the most realistic goals i have heard in a long time... average gains for people are 2 lbs of muscle per month... of course for football they do mostly powerlifting... they want to maintain as much flexibility as they can because the pads already limit their range of movement ... if youre looking to play football i would do powerlifting... olympic lifts etc... increase your strength... but since youre only 128 lbs and 5'10' i know you must be awfully thin and prone to injury so bulk up a bit, and then once you do increase your strength.

Brian - at your age and based on your height and weight I'd guess you have a growth spurt coming fairly quickly. I agree with Zenkei19 that you need more weight but do it by building muscle mass and not fat. There's a fine line there and at your age, you'll have to live with the mistakes for a long time.

Haha thanks guys... I never had intentions of putting on fat. I was thinking about doing mainly power lifts like squats and such that we used to do in training in football but I was never sure on how to go about it since I'm fairly new at weight lifting. Also, I have a choice in golds gym for 3 free personal training sessions, so should I go with the guy who specializes in sports or the guy who specializes in bulking? Thanks again guys.
