Every once in a while I have a great day running. My pace is quickened and I can last longer but today was really strange. I looked at my dog and realized how incredibly out of shape she was and decided she needed to be walked more often. I took her on a quick mile and a half walk but for some reason I felt like I had so much energy I had to just run the last part. Sure enough she was out of breath and devastated so I let her inside and got ready for a real run. I decided I'd just do a standard 3 mile jog. I pumped it out 3 minutes faster than my last time and had energy to spare. I even went to do sprints afterwards which I normally do only on agility training days along with a really fast paced 1.5 mile run. They were quarter mile sprints but for some reason I was able to make myself go faster than I'd ever gone before on my legs. They were like pistons I had little control over. They were just pumping like machines! I was finishing these sprints before I even had time to be winded and out of breath.

I just finished and I'm not tired, not even out of breath, just sweating to the point where it's bluring my vision. What the hell can this phenominon be contributed to? A day of perfect nutritional balance+plenty of sleep? I'm gotta figure out what it is that gave me this crazy burst of energy.

first try to remember what you ate the past few days.....
next remember that 80% of running is your mind....
Once you put yourself in the right mindset you are golden from there on. positive thinking versus negative can really pull you through when it comes to long distances.
good luck.

Congrats...wish I could run like that. Been trying to hit 2 miles and can't get there without getting winded fairly early. I'll do it eventually.

could be you were properly warmed up. A mile and a half walk is great to prepare you for a run.

A lot of things may have played a role in it like weather for one.

I think the "runners high" is yoru body relasing endorphines.......which can dilate blood vessels, increase heart rate, stop or slow pain, make one stronger .......you could had a stressful day.....stress weither it be mental or physical is the same to the body......same reaction....

or some days your just better and stronger than others...

That is technically what causes a runners high. I was just answering here question as to why she felt so much better during her run. A runners high occurs afterwards.

runners high isn't til later in the run or at the end of a run depending on what endurance time you are going for. It's more than likely diet, sleep, muscle state/rest, weather, shoes, clothing, or finally mental state that helped you run that distance with ease. Try to figure out the key element that day, and you will be one more step closer to pushing your body to it's full potential.
