My weightlifting coach has always told us to pause for a moment on the bench press. He says that it stops the momentum and makes us bigger, stronger, sexier, etc. He also teaches us to use reverse grip and i've read people on this forum who are against it so I'd like to know your opinion on pausing.

Well I think that it's a good way to train. Yes it will stop the momentum and will stress the muscles even more which is what your goal is in the first place.

I agree with the pause, but the coach saying it makes you sexier is a bit weird :)

Something with working different muscles, but i have a tendancy make the bar lean towards my head which seems way too dangerous to me so i dont do them.

I wouldn't do reverse grip, just for the fact that if you slip at all with normal grip the bar falls on your chest vs your head.

That's the sign of a real man when you can drop it on your head and pick it up and do another set.

I like the reverse grip.....a bit awarkward.....but not bad.....i bench just as much if not more with the reverse grip.....puts more stress on the tris. Several world records used the reverse grip...

Yeah isnt the world record for bench regular or reverse in reverse grip? that amazes me, i can barely get 50 percent of my max up like that.
