Hi I was wondering if someone could advise me on my workouts. I have been working out since around fall of 04. I am very obsessed with getting perfect lean abs and Im not sure if Im doing things right. I got into doing 1 hr or longer cardio workouts. My usual goal has been to burn 1000 calories a day in cario on an oscelator. I like to do this 5 days a week along with doing an hour to an hour and a half of lifting. Then on some days after doing those workouts I will allso do an hour of an aerobics tape. Sometimes totalling 3 1/2 hours of excercise a day. Is this to much? I read on a site that you should only do 3 days a week of lifting and 4 to 5 days a week of 30 to 45 minute cardio work outs. It allso said you should work out for no more than 75 mins a day and like lifting you should only do 3 days of ab work outs a week. Is this correct and could i be getting in better shape if I start doing less? Though I have seen inches coming off my waist and a few days ago I noticed a line in the middle of my stomach of my abs starting to come in. I have read the other submissions and fully understand the area of dieting for abs so please don't feel obligated to re-explain that area. I appreciate any advice though anyone has to give.

3 1/2 hours a day 5 days a week is too much. Your overtraining your body.. Lift weights 3-4 days a week for 45-60 mintues. Maybe do 30-45 minutes of cardio on those days, and leave 3 days a week for rest. Your muscles will not grow if you don't give them time to grow through rest. You also don't need to do 1+ hours of cardio a day, keep it to 45 minutes max and do it 4 days a week. That's my opinion. Wait for other people's posts too though. Some people tend to help catch me if I make a mistake, so wait for other people to give their opinions too. Hope you get the help you need.

It's suggested to do cardio on off-weight days... or, if you have to do carido on a day of weights, separate them by about six or eight hours...

I agree with Tim about seperating them by 6-8 hours.. The reason I suggested doing cardio on weight days was so you could get 3 days of rest. 2-3 days of rest is necessary.
