Wont the dumbells for doing lunges have to be pretty heavy, considering im aiming for 6-8 reps of heavy weights? or should i aim for mmore, say 12 reps, of lunges?
also, im scared to do squats in my basement, cuz im afraid i'll drop the weights on the floor or somein...ne suggestions there? hahah

I think you will find lunges pretty tough. The weight does not need to be that heavy....in fact, they work great as a superset with squats for instance.

billy it generally depends on your goals....
while to gain muscle most efficiently you still should stickw ith the 6-8 range...however as a beginner you may not necessarily need a lot of weight...
try one legged bulgarian split squats using a bench ......you;ll be lifting the weight with just one leg...so the weight will accomodate you a lot longer....you can do them either with barbell or dumbells...
you can also superset lunges or do them as a 2nd exercise when your muscles will be more tired and unable to handle as much weight as when they are fresh...
put thick mats on the ground for impact absorbtion.....when weights fall....and get a solid squat rack...(or a cage if you can afford it)....you can still find ways to make it mroe secure...squat in between 2 cinder blocks...or maybe two thick sturdy piece of wood at a certain height that will catch the weight if you fail....

supersets.....so i would do my squat set, immediately followed by a lunge set and then rest....is that correct?
