I have just started working out at the gym and trying to eat healthier. I am doing really good with the water intake but it seems I am having trouble with overeating. I feel like I am constantly argueing with myself not to eat something but end up eating it anyway. I eat a healthy breakfast and usally a salad for lunch then I try to eat a healthy dinner. I just can't get away from snacking. I don't want to snack. I am constantly telling myself no don't eat that. You don't need that but end up eating it anyway. Even when I and eating my meals I seem to overeat. Any suggesstions on stopping the overeating? :(

I do sometimes eat healthy snacks. Just most of the time I have a bad snack. I alway have good snacks in my drawer at work. It just seems that everyone brings in bad snacks and I can't say NO! I also overeat at most of my meals. I have trouble controlling that for some reason.

Instead of 3 meals a day eat 6....you should be eating ever 3 hours or so....Use smaller plates and don't go back for seconds....Eat a serving of protein, a serving of carbs at every meal...Fruits, grains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn and peas all count as a carb serving...Veggies like carrots, broccoli, peppers, cauliflower and celery are low in calories and can be snacked on throughout the day....On average a serving of protein (lean meats, low fat dairy such as cottage cheese) should be aroung the size of the palm of your hand or 1/2-3/4 cup...A serving of carbs should be the size of your fist (ex: 1 apple/orange med potato) or 1/2 -3/4 cup of rice/pasta (brown and whole wheat are the best)...Read labels and understand them...When people snack on unhealthy things at work pull out your healthy ones and be proud....Set small goals (I will not eat any unhealthy snacks at work tomorrow) then make new ones everytime you hit them....You will feel great with every victory...
Best of luck! feel free to email me if you have questions....I went from over 230 down to 139...I've been there and know what you are going through.

Overeating and portion control are very common difficulties with the overweight. The portion controls - where I heap the food on - is the worst, but I am combatting it. The "snacking" is something I struggled with for a very long time, also, until I did what lonegirl mentioned, eating more often! It really helps as you are seemingly always eating something! After a few weeks you will find that just when you feel a bit hungry it is time to eat again! As for making the right choices as to WHAT to eat, that will be up to you and if you are ready to make some changes you will chose the right things. Good luck to you!
