OK all. I want to post my general eating habits/workout regime and see what you all have to say...maybe you can help me out. I work out 6 days a week. Here is an example of my schedule:
Monday: shoulders, tricepts
Tuesday: back, biceps, 30 minutes cardio
Wednesday: legs
Thursday: 45 minutes cardio (mixture of biking, running, rowing, and elliptical)
Friday: shoulders, back
Saturday: legs, 30 minutes cardio
I also include a 15 or 20 minute ab workout everyday. I have been doing this since December. My stomach is noticably tighter with the streamlined definition- my legs and arms are toning up as well. However, I had not lost a single pound and my pants sometimes even feel a smidge tighter than they did. I am 5'5 and 130 pounds (18 yo)
I know you will try to repremend my eating habits...i generally eat around 1000 calories a day...I honestly feel that if I eat anymore I DO gain weight. I eat salads, vegetables, lean meats, and fruits. I only drink water (and coffee) and do not drink alcohol. What do I need to do to lose 5 pounds?! I am so confused...becasue everything I have read says I should be eating 1,700 or so calories...and I feel that I will most defintitely GAIN if I eat that much....any help is appreciateD!!

1000 calories? I am guessing you're undercounting a lot....you need about 1430 calories to maintain weight of 130 if you sleep all day....and since you're very active...it's likely thatyou need close to 2000.....I don't see how it's possible to maintain high level of energy at this caloric intake...

you may maintain or gain weight because your lean muscle/fat ratio might be changing...and muscle is heavier than fat....

I also think you're overtraining with 2 workouts a week for back and legs...1 fairly heavy workout a week is plenty for both...

Also if you reduce your calories drastically...and we assume that you do indeed consume 1000 calories a day...then your body goes into starvation mode....and your metabolism goes way down to conserve energy which becomes counter productive to losing weight....instead try reducing caloric intake by 50-100 every few weeks....this way it will be steady....and mostly from fat ....by drastic caloric reductions you risk losing a lot of lean muscle in the process....

muscle is more dense than fat. A pound is a pound lol it takes more fat to make a pound than muscle. SOrry menace just had to rib ya lol.

I completely agree with Menace....With the energy expenditure you have, 1000 calories is going to backfire on you fairly shortly. At first it will look like you are making progress, but your body will start to fight back and slow metabolism and you will be burning the very muscle you are trying to build and storing fat. The body is very smart, and survival is its ultimate goal. You are going to have to make a change somewhere, either in calories or decreased energy output.(many times I have said, your body does not care about looking good at the beach, it cares about survival, and will percieve starvation)

I again agree with Menace...legs and back are two of your largest bodyparts and very easily qualify their own day, and no more than once per week, or at the very earliest every 5 days(and that may be stretching it if you work them properly).

What you can do with legs is a couple things, for instance this worked well for me....do quads one day, and have another day for hams/glutes/teardrop and calves in the same week. I particularly liked this at contest prep.

Another option if you want to do legs twice per week do a heavy day and a light day. I believe this option benefits women greatly.
