Stomach, lower ab, “the pooch”

It is not muscle, it is fat.

Excercising, with the weight machines resistance/weight training – as well as cardio

Eating right

The pounds are melting off, I went from a size 14 to a size 10 and looking good, shapely, sexy, I might add (wink)

My only question revolves around this “pooch”. They say it’s the last to go when you’re loosing weight. I want to understand why. It’s the last to go, and the first to “pack on the pounds”. Why, when you’re loosing weight all over, are you not loosing from your stomach. Why is the stomach the “last to go”. There is muscle (toned and strong) under that “pooch or roll of fat that stick out” (yuck!). It’s just when the fat finally does fall/burn off of it, that’s when the muscle tone will show.

There’s got to be something to “ B L A S T ” that stomach off quicker!!! Isn’t there?!!!

Please offer this knowledge!!!! No matter how hard we work, there always seems to be “the pooch” that never goes away, and it is so unattractive.

Dawn.
Fallen.

Im pretty sure it has to do with your the law of center gravity, and also that your stomach is the 1st place the food goes to

Hey Beauty. The response you get on this board will likely be the following: the first place you gain fat is the last place you lose it. It is very difficult for you to lose the last few pounds (the pouch) because it is your body's way of holding onto stored energy for future necessity. There is no way to spot reduce, so in other words, you can't blast the stomach area to rid of the fat there because bodyfat is like an entire entity in and of itself, regardless of where it is located, so it will be burnt off when the other fat before it has been depleted. You will also be recommended to do HIIT to burn more fat calories than steady paced cardio, which is easy for your body to become accustomed to.

On a side note, I am a guy with the same problem and I was actually pondering lipo. Does anyone know how dangerous it would be to just rid a little extra fat via lipo? The last 5 pounds is seemingly impossible to shed.

It seems impossible, but it is not. :)

frosh you got it...it depends where the body prefers to store its fat...that's why some people have more around their belly while other have it more around their hips or some other areas...I wouldn't recommend lipo just for the fact you got so far on your own...keep it up...it's hard to perservere throught he challenges but it's not impossible...look into your diet into things you can eliminate....so that you can cut your total calories by another 100-200 calories...maybe from simple carbs, or some unhealthy fats...or something else....you could do without...decrease your sodium intake as it has tendency to suck water under the skin...you rock if you can get it under 1500mg a day....try to stay away from procressed foods....ie cook yourself or use this as an opportunity to learn to cook ...

Although when you work abs you work them as a unit...you may want to do different types of leg raises to emphasize the lower ab area....either on the floor, on the dip station, on the decline bench, or hanging...do these for a 2-3 months and I am sure you'll notice significant progress...
