I lost 3 sizes in the last 2 months but I have only lost like 6 or 7 pounds. I have been doing cardio 5 hours a week and just started with strength training 3-4 times a week with toning (abs) exercises etc. I lost over 50 pounds since I had my baby in September (I have 40 more to lose). and I have been working really hard (cut out refined sugar, carbs etc.) I am not complaining about losing sizes, BUT...It is just really weird and I don't understand how I can be 5'2 170 pounds and wearing a size 12....and I also don't understand how I can LOOK like I'm losing weight but I step on the scale and NOTHING...it is so discouraging that it make me want to cut calories (I'm at 1100-1200) or add another hour of cardio, which frankly I do not have the time or the energy for with going to school full time, taking care of a house, a husband, and a 5 month old teething baby who won't sleep longer than 4 hours at a time. I just want to lose this weight....not just to lose the weight, but so I can finally quit smoking for good (I can't lose weight and quit smoking at the same time...i have tried over and over, it has never worked for me). I guess my question is what should I do to speed things up or help in the weigh-loss effort here (WEIGHTLOSS...as opposed to size-loss).

muscle weighs more than fat. that is one reason why you dont see much going on differently on the scale.i am experiencing the same sort of thing. if you REALLY want to see results and not feel so bad about the scale, which really doesnt matter anyways as long as you are making gaines, take polaroids of yourself. then when you have grandchildren you can say look, here is fat grandma after having your mother, and here is super sexy grandma 15 weeks later!

IwantmybodyBack:
you are doing very well. You are basically losing body fat -sizes going down- and adding muscle mass. Fat and muscle is like comparing "cotton" and "iron"... 1 lbs of cotton will take up so much space whereas 1lbs of iron is like nothing. that is what is happening to your body which everyone wants. and the more muscle you have, the more calories they will use on their own...
Dropping 3 sizes is great.. keep on keeping on. You are doing great. Don't worry about the scale. Finally I threw it away. Measure your waist, chest, arms, legs and go by that. I am 5'3 and 135 lbs and wear size 2. When I was 120 I wasn't as lean as I was now. I know we are so used to the scale however, fit people weigh more than loose people. I think you might want to change your goal from "i want to lose 40 more lbs, to something like I want to become size 8 or size 6"... you will learn something everyday as you get more into fitness training...
good luck and forget weight-loss, it doesn't mean anything. focus on "size-loss". especially for women the scale means so much. however there are a lot of females out there who are 110-120 lbs but they have big bellies and loose legs and you don't want that :)

Hang in there baby!! You'll get your body back. I took the advice from someone here and started taking pictures
Front, Back, and Side. I take them every 2 weeks.
That is a great motivator. You'll see a big difference.
I am no longer discorage about the scale. It can say
what it wants to say.. I've had 2 kids and I know what your going through. You will hit your goal.
Good Luck, (to us all)
I'm 43 5'4" and 28%BF my goal is 20% body Fat.
Keep in touch.

Actually, not to be a poo-head, but 5 pounds of fat is going to weigh the same as 5 pounds of muscle and just like gbaser said, it is the amount of space it takes up in your body that is what makes the difference. Think of those nice tight and toned muscles vs. the blobs of fat, the difference is night and day! When I was a size 12 I weighed 170 pounds myself, but my muscle to fat ratio was on the muscle side vs. the fat. Everyone's body is different and the amount of muscle to fat ratio is different so that is why a good indication of your progress is your clothes and their looseness!! Sounds to me like you are doing great! Remember, a "normal" weight loss for two months is 8-16 pounds and if you are gaining muscle it won't be as apparent on the scale and this is why so many give up in frustration not understanding that as you gain muscle your scale cannot deciper what is fat, excess fluids, muscle, etc. I agree, hang in there, you will get there and the pictures are a great idea!
