Before workout i have a cup of oats added to my protein shake. I do lift very heavy and i was wondering if this happens to other people?

I feel that way after a really hard workout. I think its a good feeling. It lets me know that I kicked my own ass. Maybe try waiting 30 min after your pre workout meal.

If I put raw oats in my protein shake, I get nauseous too. However, if I cook oatmeal and add the protein powder, I feel fine (and it tastes great). Could it be some of us can't handle the raw oats?

Oatmeal expands in your stomach, I advice you not to eat it before a workout, but thats just me.

How soon are you working out after you eat? I always have oatmeal before I workout... then I usually wait 45 minutes to an hour after...

They say you havn't had a good leg day unless you have had to do it. But as for the oatmeal i eat it pre-workout everyday but try to make sure its about an hour before!

doc4u18.
Why are you putting oats into your shake, you should take your pre WO shake ON ITS OWN (just water)and take some dextrose or fast carbs during the workout and directly after in your post WO shake. Your feeling sick because your body thinks it’s in fight or flight mode while working out. The last thing it needs to do is digest oats so it will prepare itself to dump them (nausea). If your buying a reputable shake it will be a complete muscle fuel you will not need to improve on it.
Thats my opinion if its any good to you.:)

first off you need a combiantion of simple and complex carbs before workouts annd simple carbs+protein afterward.....so banana/bagal/rice with tuna before....chicken with potatoes/pasta afterward....

also this could be acid reflux...i struggle with it all the time....by putting alot of pressure on ur stomach/abs...the acid creeps up your throat...and makes u throw up...so carry TUMS or other caclium supplement which neutralizes acid...plus u'll be getting ur daily intake for calcium of 1 g a day that's recommended....

menace.
you should not eat for at least an hour before your work out. A complex carb with protein should be took about an hour and half before. Only a whey protein shake should be taken directly before and simple carbs during the workout amd after but not before. your stomache shuts down during your workout so your banana/bagal/rice and tuna will still be sitting there after your workout, this will impead the digestion of the post WO shake and carbs and definatly hinder your recovery and cause nausia.
